Rich McComb,
Senior Advisor
Richard D. McComb is a seasoned security and risk executive with more than 35 years of leadership across the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of War, and the United States Air Force. He is widely recognized for guiding large, complex organizations through high-stakes operational, security, and resilience challenges. His leadership portfolio includes enterprise security risk management and governance, crisis management, continuity, executive protection oversight, and multi-agency coordination.
As the former Chief Security Officer for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, McComb oversaw enterprise security risk, crisis management, and continuity programs impacting more than 260,000 employees and 10 operating agencies. He led national-scale modernization efforts in physical security, personnel vetting, insider threat, identity management, and crisis and continuity operations while advising Cabinet-level leaders and chairing cross-agency security councils.
McComb previously held senior executive roles within the Department of War and the United States Air Force, where he directed global security policy, major organizational transformations, and protection programs for critical national infrastructure and operational warfighting capabilities worldwide. He also served as the installation commander for 1 of only 12 Department of Defense joint bases providing base service support for a population of 40,000 and strategic military airlift and sealift operations, including maintaining and operating $5.3B in physical infrastructure consisting of two airfields, three seaports, and 38 miles of railroad.
A recognized thought leader and frequent keynote speaker, McComb has been named one of Security Magazine’s Most Influential People in Security. He holds multiple master's degrees, including a Master of Science in National Security Strategy from the National Defense University. He is also completing a Doctor of Executive Leadership at the University of Charleston, WV. He is a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) and a former member of the Federal Senior Executive Service (SES).
